13 imagesWith the ambition to disappoint anyone expecting me to produce stereotypical third world images as we know them from the western media and the NGO propagation materials, I travelled to Bangladesh to look for a story. Browsing the options that the raising middle class has to offer; globalization, western influence, youth culture, mainstream and underground music scene, homosexual community, etc., I chose to dig in the fashion and modeling world. While looking at the billboards all over Dhaka city, or when flipping through magazines, one can be amused by the state of the fashion and advertising industry. However, there is a lot going on in the backstage; the industry is growing and improving. There is only few professionally trained photographers, designers, choreographers and models and institutions like modeling schools are just starting their operation. This "baby stage" is very exciting for me to watch, as I believe the industry will once grow big, hand in hand with the economical development of the country. By capturing the backstage scenes of fashion shows, and fashion photo shoots, I attempt to portray the growing stage of the industry and the determination it has for the future.
